This time of the year is usually crazy around here so I tend to avoid any commitments, but when my sweet friend Gabriela, the designer behind Chalk and Notch invited me to join the tour for her new pattern I was so excited to give it a try that I couldn’t say no.
I already knew that her patterns were perfect from all the good things I’d heard from my friends but seriously this is perfection! Gabriela really took the PDF patterns up to the next level. I can’t think of one thing I didn’t love, even the “no trim” pages that I never worked with before and was a bit sceptic about got a big thumbs up.
It took me forever to decide on what to make because I had a gazillion ideas. From fabrics I want to use, to versions I want to make… I even got some fabric particularly for the tour but then I got this absolutely gorgeous floral jersey courtesy of Girl Charlee UK, as part of our London Sew Social goodie bag, and I couldn’t resist using it.
I ended up deciding on the Pattern Hack theme, and turned the dress version into a top and skirt. The pattern is designed for wovens but I decided to risk on a knit version (you know I’m a “make all things in knit” person hehehe) and I’m pretty happy with it.
To make the top I just cut the front pattern piece on fold using the center front line; it comes marked on the pattern piece so it was a no brainer. Since I was using jersey I replaced the neckline facing for neck binding. It ends up a bit higher than the neckline on the original pattern but still passes perfectly trough the head.
I used some pink and white mini stripe from Nosh I bought a few weeks ago, and it worked great. (Sorry about that giant crease, I don’t know how could I not notice it when I was taking the photos, total duh moment!!) If you follow me on IG now you know were that skipped stitch from the double needle belongs to heheh. đ
The sleeves were finished with a band, super simple. For the hem I didn’t add length just serged the end, folded up by about 1 cm and sewed in place using the double needle (which behaved nicely this time by the way eheheh).
The skirt is the knee length option, with no pockets because I was afraid it would add much weight to the jersey which is pretty lightweight. For the waist I cut a band in ribbing using the elastic given measurements. All the fabrics paired so great! I want this outfit for me, can I be a little girl again please?! heheh
Seriously who doesn’t want a twirling skirt? I do! đ
The pattern has so many great options, I really want to make a romper now because M. apparently is on “the pants and shorts phase”, and if you usually read this blog, you probably know that I never thought it would happen. Things do change people… đ
Thank you so much for having me on the tour Gabriela! ⤠⤠â¤
