Top Knot Tour

Tour Logo-pattern hackThis time of the year is usually crazy around here so I tend to avoid any commitments, but when my sweet friend Gabriela, the designer behind Chalk and Notch invited me to join the tour for her new pattern I was so excited to give it a try that I couldn’t say no.

I already knew that her patterns were perfect from all the good things I’d heard from my friends but seriously this is perfection! Gabriela really took the PDF patterns up to the next level. I can’t think of one thing I didn’t love, even the “no trim” pages that I never worked with before and was a bit sceptic about got a big thumbs up.

It took me forever to decide on what to make because I had a gazillion ideas. From fabrics I want to use, to versions I want to make… I even got some fabric particularly for the tour but then I got this absolutely gorgeous floral jersey courtesy of Girl Charlee UK, as part of our London Sew Social goodie bag, and I couldn’t resist using it.

I ended up deciding on the Pattern Hack theme, and turned the dress version into a top and skirt. The pattern is designed for wovens but I decided to risk on a knit version (you know I’m a “make all things in knit” person hehehe) and I’m pretty happy with it.

To make the top I just cut the front pattern piece on fold using the center front line; it comes marked on the pattern piece so it was a no brainer. Since I was using jersey I replaced the neckline facing for neck binding. It ends up a bit higher than the neckline on the original pattern but still passes perfectly trough the head.

I used some pink and white mini stripe from Nosh I bought a few weeks ago, and it worked great. (Sorry about that giant crease, I don’t know how could I not notice it when I was taking the photos, total duh moment!!) If you follow me on IG now you know were that skipped stitch from the double needle belongs to heheh. 😉

The sleeves were finished with a band, super simple. For the hem I didn’t add length just serged the end, folded up by about 1 cm and sewed in place using the double needle (which behaved nicely this time by the way eheheh).

The skirt is the knee length option, with no pockets because I was afraid it would add much weight to the jersey which is pretty lightweight. For the waist I cut a band in ribbing using the elastic given measurements. All the fabrics paired so great! I want this outfit for me, can I be a little girl again please?! heheh

Seriously who doesn’t want a twirling skirt? I do! 😉

The pattern has so many great options, I really want to make a romper now because M. apparently is on “the pants and shorts phase”, and if you usually read this blog, you probably know that I never thought it would happen. Things do change people… 😉

NOSH Spring-Summer Collection 2016

Yep, it’s true, NOSH organics just released a brand new collection of fabrics. They’re all  absolutely gorgeous and I’m really excited to show you what I’ve made.

For those who never heard of NOSH, let me tell you that it is a really cool apparel and fabric brand, whose products are produced sustainably and ecologically. Sewing with perfect quality organic cotton is my dream come true, so working with them is a joy!! 😀

La Folie - NOSH - SPRING 2016

I must admit I had a hard time choosing my fabrics, I had the awesome opportunity to compose my own fabric pack and being an eternal undecided person made me want them all. hahahaha I just kept thinking oh I can do this but I really wanted to do that, and oh that one is gorgeous… you get the picture, it’s like a five year old on a candy store!! heheh

La Folie - NOSH - SPRING 2016

I created two looks, one for M. and one for F., they share the same color palette and are screaming for spring to come quickly. 😉

La Folie - NOSH - SPRING 2016

For F. I choose the Ministar print in coral (see it here) and decided to make a dress from Ottobre Magazine issue 3/2014. Just a cute basic piece that I’m sure will be used tons, it’s pattern number 8 Giant Apple. I made size 98cm for my 92cm tall girl and I’m happy with the fit, the dress is intended to look shorter but I like it like this, it will fit longer! 😉

La Folie - NOSH - SPRING 2016

It has a cute little detail with a small sleeve, but somehow I didn’t quite made it right and it ended up smaller than it should. Gah I have to improve my french to be able to read this issue properly and make things has instructed. hehe 😀 Anyway, I used a bit of navy jersey (here) for the sleeves, and finished the seams with rib in dark blue (here) and coral (here).

La Folie - NOSH - SPRING 2016

It’s been a million years since I made a hat, I forgot how fun they are to make. The toddler modeling the dress in the magazine is wearing one, the pattern also comes in this particular issue, so I felt compelled to make it too. hahah It’s just a simple bucket hat but the pattern comes together perfectly. I used the navy jersey for it on one side and Ministar for the other, I think she looks adorable! ❤

La Folie - NOSH - SPRING 2016

I’m completely in Love with NOSH fabrics Denim Look College, I want to hoard it in all the colors LOL, this time I choose Coral (see it here) and decided to make a raglan cardigan from the Japanese Book “1 pattern 1 week” that I bought a while ago at Retrosaria; I used it a couple of times already here and here. The cardigan is pattern 27, I made it in size 120cm but I think I should have made one size up, particularly because this fabric has a small stretch percentage.

I swear I pressed the sleeve seam on the photo above, I don’t know what happened eheheh!

The top is from the same book, pattern number 28, it calls for lace to finish the neckline but I went with dark blue rib and have no regrets. heheh 😉 I used Jersey Powder (here), this fabric is so good to work with, really, you have to try it if you haven’t yet. ❤

M. really wanted something in the TIIPII print in coral (here) so I decided to make a skirt. I hacked Brindille and Twig’s Pocket puff pants by adding a few cm to center front of the front and back pattern pieces and not cutting the center curved edge. I gathered the extra length until it matched the waist pieces again and it was done. 😀 For added cuteness I decided to finish the pocket seam and the hem with dark blue rib, the same on the top. I’m loving this whole look a lot and M. is too so big big Win!!

So my advice for you is to go check out the New NOSH fabrics because they’re perfect! I’m swooning over all the stripes and I have to hoard a bit of turquoise college! (This may or may not be a hint for my husband, since today is Valentines day hahahah, hope he reads this one LOL)

Sorry for the extra blurry photos today, not that they’re usually that good, ahem, but it has been raining nonstop here and I had zero light and no competence to do better… hehe Can I blame it on my poor machine? LOL 😀 Ok I really should finally try to learn how to use the machine in manual mode… Priorities people. 😉 You forgive me right?

La Folie - NOSH - SPRING 2016

Yep F. is wearing shoes that don’t fit her yet and she has them switched hahah I couldn’t say no to her, I think it’s adorable that she wanted to match her sister. ❤

Thanks a million NOSH for giving me the opportunity to try these first hand, it was a pleasure!!

Thanks for stopping by! Happy Valentines day!

All the fabrics I used for the items in this post were given to me by NOSH, but all the opinions are my own.

MG 2715 and Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Well I’m a bit late but still counts right? 😉
Today I have a quick post just to show you this version of the MG 2715 another perfect Mingo&Grace pattern.
LaFolie - MG2715 - sewing pattern by Mingo&Grace
I’ve been looking to make this almost since I got the pattern. In fact this particular outfit was cut in September I think. What? And then I put it in the drawer because I had other stuff to make. And since it was for a friend’s daughter and they’re living abroad I thought yeah I still have plenty of time until Christmas Bahahahah and then it was Christmas. Oh dear… Yeah I finished it only a few days before giving it, which lets face it, its pretty ridiculous considering when I started it.
LaFolie - MG2715 - sewing pattern by Mingo&Grace
But it got done, and I love it so. My friend gave me the fabric and asked me to make something with it. Whatever I wanted. Gahh it’s so hard to decide in these cases right? But then I saw Farrah’s pattern and it was pretty clear. I think the print works so perfectly. ❤
LaFolie - MG2715 - sewing pattern by Mingo&Grace
The pattern comes in sizes 2-10 years. I made size five according to M. measurements and the fit is great. There are also a few options for the top in terms of sleeve length, and two different waist options for the skirt.

I used kam snaps for the black closure, I was going for dark brown but then moved to the blue ones and I think it works. 🙂

And that’s it. You can get the pattern here. Thanks a million Farrah for another super cool design! ❤ And if you like african wax prints but don’t sew, or even if you do just check out talented Patricia’s shop (here), her brand Cappies and Lanas always delivers lots of beautiful things. ❤ ❤ ❤
Sorry that I only have one modeled photo, thats it is absolutely out of focus and that shows a bit of my sofa hahahahah so much for photo shoot settings LOL Maybe when my sweet friend‘s daughter gets to wear it, she sends some prettier ones and I’ll update the post. 😉

See what I was saying hahaha ❤
Wish you all an amazing 2016!
